This year I joined FLL, which stands for First Lego League. It is a competition where you make a Lego robot to accomplish a few challenging missions, and also take a common problem in the world, and find a solution to the problem. This year's challenge was "Nature's Fury". You could choose from some natural disasters, choose a community affected by the chosen natural disaster, and and find a solution for the community's problems.
Our team, "Robo Masters", chose earthquakes, as here in California there are a lot of earthquakes. The community we chose was the San Benito County, because it lies right on top of the San Andreas Fault, which is where most earthquakes in California originate. When we researched, we found out that earthquakes happen there every few days. In fact, when we went to an earthquake detecting website, the latest earthquake was in San Juan Bautista, one of the two cities in the San Benito County!
All of the kids in my team go to the same school as I, so it is very easy to communicate between us. We all meet at one of our team member's house every weekend. Right now, we are working on rebuilding the robot, as the previous one we made was too tall. We are also revising some of the programs to make them work with the new robot. Next week, we are going to start working on out presentation. We have a lot to do ahead of us!
